Squinting (strabismus)
When the eyes do not work well together and do not look at the same point at the same time, it is called strabismus. Strabismus occurs mainly in children, but adults can also suddenly start squinting for various reasons, often resulting in double vision.
Double vision (diplopia)
People who have double vision, also known as diplopia, see two images of the same object. The images can be either horizontal, vertical or diagonal to each other. You can often use a prism to regain a single image. In some cases, surgery is advised.
Lazy eye
If the same eye is always squinting, this can result in a lazy eye or amblyopia. Prompt diagnosis and early treatment involving covering the good eye with or without glasses are crucial in this case.
Eye Screening
An eye screening is a structured examination to quickly detect any eye problems as early as the child’s first months of life.

Dr. Fikri Jamila is an ophthalmologist with over 20 years of experience. She specialises in general, paediatric and surgical ophthalmology. She is happy to welcome you to her own practice in Laeken. As well as at the CHIREC (Basilique site in Koekelberg, Sainte-Anne site in Anderlecht, Delta site in Auderghem), and the CHU Brugmann (Paul Brien site in Schaerbeek).

Ann Deckx is an expert orthoptist. Thanks to her examination and advice, both orthoptic problems in children and adults can be diagnosed and treated. She treats strabismus (squinting), amblyopia (lazy eye in children) and diplopia (double vision) in children and adults.
